Vlog #4 All Better Now

Today I was at a public play date kinda thingie. Man, I am el-o-quent. It was just me and babies and some of my pals and their babies by one wall and a large group of moms we didn't know by the other wall. I said to my pals, "Hey, I wonder if that's a moms group?" And I kept asking. And asking. And finally my friend told me to just go over and talk to them. So I did. I'm fearless like that. And nosy. Really really nosy.

Yeah, they're a mom's group from my part of the 'hood. Said I was welcome to join. When I introduced myself, I told them about my video show. I'm a big dork that feels the world needs to know about All Things Mutha.

One of the moms asked me, "So what's the point? I don't mean to be rude, but what's the point of doing your video show?"

Bada bing, bada boom, my thoughts went on a downward spiral from there. Which brings us the final Vlog entry for Vlog Week.

I'm going to try to do this once a week. Me. The camera. Talking about.. me. Wow. My kind of heaven.

I was so happy to see a week of vlogs! I saw the first one- then was out of the loop for a while- and what a pleasant surprise- I love seeing other vloggers!!! Okay I was going to comment on youtube but comments were off there- okay okay OKAY_ first- I like the catchy "this is mae's vlog entry"- very nice- probably hubby? second- makeup looked particularly good in vlog #4- I'm just remembering how frumpy I look in some of my videos- ah well- but you looked good in this one :) UMMM what else? Oh I forgot- I've not been sleeping well lately- I'll probably remember later. ummmmmmmm nope still can't remember. well yay for mae! if you want to gain more of a youtube crowd- they do have contests and video responses you could pursue.... just a thought. vlogvlogvlog- I love that now I keep videos of the kids because I am pretty sure I'd forget a lot of stuff if I didn't. this is mae's vlog en-try- sooo stuck in my head-

I too have the intro stuck in my wee head. Also, that mom who said that to you? She possesses the imagination of a brontosaurus. WHY do you keep doing this? Because you are creative! And charismatic! And engaging, and talented! And I really believe in your awesome ideas. Nice vlog. I felt like we were hanging out having a gin and tonic (well, I was, anyway).

Ok, gotta come back to watch the latest addition of "Mae's Vlog". (I love that voice over at the beginning and end!)

Lucky you, your going to The Melting Pot. LOVE IT!!!!

HAHAH! Yeah, that is indeed Matt. When I was doing my first VLog entry, I thought it would be fun to have this awful hard rock intro and outro singing "This is Mae's Vlog en-try!" So I found Matt and sang it to him and asked if he could go into my studio (computer in my bedroom, who am I kidding this this studio crap?) and sing that for me. Instead he used his professional musician-like program and electric guitar and created it for me. That man really supports all my crazy ideas. I tell him if it pays off one day, he can retire and make music all day long. I think that's a big motivator for him. That and he loves me. Awwww

I love that it comes off like we are sitting together, having a drink, and I am telling you a story. That was the goal.

And yes, Melting Pot! And yes, I am bringing the camera along. Because I'm a big big dork who is a self obsessed wanna be fame whore. HAH!!

Ok, I know that you're frustrated... but I have to say, something different about this vlog.

More comfortable. A little more honest and less planned. Perhaps stemmed out of the frustration?! I think that the repressed artiste suits you, Mae!! ha ha

But seriously, I enjoy the shows. They're interesting and entertaining. Even the boys watch them. "There's that St. louis Mom who does those shows"...

So, I say keep on keeping on... as in this wacky world of the Internet, you never know who is watching!

Eve, thanks. I'm going to take the vlog in some different directions in the coming weeks. It's a way for me to feel like I'm doing SOMETHING because it's much harder to find time to work on the actual video shows. Trying to find 30 hours to produce one video? That's why it takes weeks. And each new concept I have is getting more and more complicated and time consuming.

You are right. You never know who is watching. It just takes the right person to say, "Ok, let's hear those ideas of yours and see what we can do."

Have you lost weight? You look thinner in the vlog than in older episodes of the Mutha shows.

Sarah, hah! I have to laugh because I'm doing a vlog entry about that in the coming weeks. Yes, I have lost a few. Good eye and thanks for noticing! How is your brother doing?

I just wanted to pop out and give you a comment because I've been enjoying you for awhile, and I am loving the vlog en-tries! But I never comment since I'm either holding a baby or I have nothing interesting to say, or "does she remember me? ha ha!" So.. hi, good job, keep doing it! You're one of the first I click on in my feed reader!

So what did you end up saying to that mom? I have met people like that, and it's not you, it's HER. I mean what's the point of doing anything, really? Of course I meet people like that and I try to explain but they all start giggling at my ogre-ness, but I digress.

I wish I had the talent to vlog. great job

Thanks for that pencil . . . I'll keep it in my purse, for the shock factor.

Hi Jen, I know how you feel. I can only do this when the babies are napping. Avie is in a phase where she wants me to hold her all the time. Not that I mind or anything...

What did I say to that mom? Well, I have to remember not everyone is an internet savvy as the rest of us. You wouldn't believe how many people aren't online or are only online once a month. HOW DO THEY DO THAT? I'd go crazy! To her, I did seem really odd. So I didn't take it personally. It just made me wish I had a legit show to tell people about so I wouldn't seem so lame!

And tubeless- it takes zero talent to do a blog entry. Point the cam, and talk. You would be shocked at some of the BORING vlogs out there that gets tens of thousands of views. People with zero personality, droning on and on. Yawn. But hey, that appeals to certain people out there. There's an audience for everyone!

Tut tut- YAY! So glad you got it. I'm sorry it was such a teeny prize, but isn't it hilarious?

Mae,

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON!!! I just don't get why you think you need someone else to validate your ideas. GO DO IT!!!

Yea, I know you know me as that guy your hubby used to work with, but I did have my own video business and wrote a book on it.

Start putting together a plan and get some investors to get what ever else you need to make the ideas happen. Most business start with a group of friends and family investing. And yea, I'd invest in you (and you can ask my wife how cheap I am) - because I believe you have something good here.

And why don't you write the guys from mythbusters or maybe oprah herself or some of the other shows that you like and ask them how they got started. Maybe they can hook you up with some contacts.

Don't let the dull people drag you down to their dull little world. Decide what you want put together a plan, and got get it. You have what everyone else needs - talent and creativity (and cheap labor).

The only thing hold you back is you.

It's great that you're doing these. I'm curious how your style will evolve as you keep working with it. This most recent one felt more real/grounded than some of your previous ones, which was an interesting shift.

(And people think scrapbooking is a time consuming hobby? :) )

Mae, you are pasionate, talented, and real - a great combination. Don't get too frustrated. Remember, miracles can happen on days just like today. As someone said, you never know who is watching.(it's not like you need a miracle though...I hope you get my point)
:) Ashley

Gnomic,I'd feel more confident in that approach if I had connections at a production company or an actual network. I don't run in well to do circles. In fact, I run with the paycheck to paycheck crowd. I wouldn't ask for investors unless I knew 100 percent that I could get my video seen by the right people first. It's an idea, tho...

Skywind, you will probably like the vlog entries to come. Especially one featuring Matt. Poor guy. He really does put up with me!

Ashley, I get your point and appreciate it! You are right. You never know what can happen.

Mae - I'll echo what others have said - I love to see your creativity shine - it is inspiring. I am in a similar place in life - but with just 1 baby - and it is hard to keep creating when there is always laundry to do and kiddos to chase. But it is important to who we are as people, too -
Have you seen handmadehomeschool.wordpress.com? She is an inspiration to me - someone who has committed to being creative and doing things. Her bent to creativity runs in a different direction from yours, but you might be inspired by some of what she writes.

He's doing good, Mae. Much better than the last time we talked. I'll be sure to let him know you asked about him. Take care.

Awwww.

I think Zappa deserves directing credit!

Coolio! Now could you please give me a little of your confidence? I am such a timid little mouse... True story... I'm in my college's cafeteria... I had to ask a girl to plug in my laptop cord for me because she was blocking the outlet... and I just bumbled all over myself. I get too nervous when I have to talk to any people, much less on camera!

Can't wait to see more!
